Guernsey is rightly renowned as an ideal destination for food lovers and, despite the island’s modest size, it is home to a vibrant culinary scene.
For a fantastic gourmet experience in Guernsey, be sure to follow our top tips.
ENJOY THE FRESHEST SEAFOOD AROUND
From sea to plate in only a matter of hours, you would be hard pressed to find fresher seafood anywhere else. Many of Guernsey’s restaurants specialise in fresh fish and shellfish and most venues offer delicious dishes caught just a few miles away.
TRY SOME LOCAL SPECIALITIES
As well as superb seafood, Guernsey has several speciality dishes. These include gâche; a decadent fruit loaf best served with rich local butter, and bean jar; a hearty cassoulet-style dish made with pork or beef. The ormer is a rare shellfish which can only be harvested a few times every year for sustainability reasons, so if you get the chance to try one, be sure not to pass it up.
DINE AL FRESCO
If you are visiting in the warmer months, be sure to visit one of Guernsey’s many outdoor venues. Several of them offer unforgettable views as well as delicious food, and if you pick a west coast venue for dinner you can enjoy one of Britain’s best sunsets while you dine.

BUY FRESH PRODUCE AND COOK YOURSELF
While Guernsey is home to a plethora of fantastic restaurants, cooking yourself is also an option if you are staying in self-catering accommodation. Enjoy seasonal produce from one of the island’s many “hedge veg” roadside stalls, where you leave your money in an honesty box in exchange for locally grown fruit and vegetables, and cook up a storm.
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE TENNERFEST
The famous Tennerfest food festival brings dining bargains to Guernsey every year, and always proves a hit among locals and visitors alike. For a fixed price you can enjoy one, two or three-course set menus from dozens of local restaurants, typically influenced by fresh local food. The festival used to only run throughout October, but in recent years it has been extended, so be sure to take advantage of the Tennerfest.
