The sun is shining and the flowers are beginning to bloom. We are so ready for those longer warmer days.
It’s such a lovely time of year on the Islands. The sun is shining, the evenings are longer and we get the most wonderful sunrises and sunsets at this time of year, which lifts the spirits. Spring actually arrives four weeks earlier in Guernsey than on mainland Britain, which allows some unique and very beautiful flora to grow on the island.
Each Spring, life transforms the Bailiwick into a kaleidoscope of energy and hues. From the overflowing hanging baskets in the harbour courtesy of Floral Guernsey to the wildflowers drenching the cliffs in yellow and purple; the westerly orchid fields to the beautiful bluebell woods.
Walking in Spring
It’s a great time to get out and about on the islands. The Spring sunshine and mild weather make this an ideal time to enjoy our rural and coastal paths. The Islands of Guernsey are renowned for our fantastic walking routes, and guided walks with local experts and enthusiasts are the perfect way to discover our great outdoors. Fresh Local Food
Guernsey’s mild climate makes it the perfect spot for an abundance of local produce that never travel far from the soil to your plate. Spring is the season when the island’s shores start brimming with seafood and the famous local crab is showcased on restaurant menus. It’s a wonderful way to support and eat local.
Wildlife
The Bailiwick is home to a wealth of wildlife that breed new life in Spring. And it’s not just the lambs and calves who pop in in the fields. From mid-March, puffins come to the islands to breed. Most can be spotted over off the north coast of Herm, along with the Atlantic grey seal pups. In Alderney, migrant birds return to the island, which is wonderful sign of the season. The Islands are also home to a range of nature reserves including 4 designated Ramsar sites.
