Things to do this month on The Islands of Guernsey

Celebrate the arrival of 2025 on the Islands of Guernsey. 

Whether you are planning a romantic getaway or are simply looking to relax and recharge, there is plenty to do in Guernsey this winter. From hikes and spa days to a lively arts and cuisine scene, the cooler months bring out a cosier side of the island.

See below the upcoming events Guernsey has in store for you.

JANUARY

1st - 6th January: Ice Skate Guernsey

Ice Skate Guernsey is back at Le Friquet Garden Centre.

This year they have a 20m x 20m covered outdoor ice rink and over 400 pairs of skates to cater to all sizes.

You can also enjoy their on-site eateries, including Cafe des Amis and the NEW Vern's Cookie Cafe, near the rink side.

1st - 4th January: Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood Pantomime 

Experience Guernsey's local pantomime, performed by the Guernsey Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Club from 21st December to 4th January 2025.

This year, GADOC will be performing Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood, with tickets going on sale from 1st November.

1st & 12th January: Watch Guernsey Football Live

1st - 25th January: The Fabric of Guernsey Exhibition

Art for Guernsey's current exhibition, The Fabrics of Guernsey, tells the history and stories of the 'guernsey' through a selection of commissioned artworks by Sally Ede-Golightly. 

The exhibition is a collaboration between Art for Guernsey and Le Tricoteur, with each piece of artwork being paired with a unique "guernsey" (a traditional knitted jumper).

4th, 11th, 18th, & 25th January: Guernsey Parkrun

Guernsey Parkrun is a 5k run help every Saturday morning all-year round at Pembroke Bay. Most runners go to Pembroke Beach café for a coffee afterwards.

10th - 12th January: The Three Musketeers Pantomime

Class Act Productions will be hosting the famous story by Dumas given the panto treatment at the Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts

With the Three Musketeers sent to Egypt by Richlieu, three singers reluctantly stand in to protect the King and his new Queen from the machinations of Milady and Richlieu. They're helped by young D'Artagnan, newly arrived to become a musketeer.

11th & 25th January: Watch Guernsey Raiders Rugby Live

15th January: Japanese Calligraphy Evening Workshop

Japanese calligraphy, known as "Shodo", is one of the oldest surviving traditional Japanese art forms. Emerging in Japan in the 4th Century, the art of writing Kanji (Chinese characters) creates beauty through the careful use of space and character formation.

While focusing on the formation of the individual brush strokes in each Kanji, Shodo teaches deep concentration and mindfulness. By practising Shodo students can achieve improved focus and mental health, while also learning the history and meaning behind each Kanji.

18th January: Photo-Symphony

A collaboration between Guernsey Photography Festival and Guernsey Symphony Orchestra, Photo-Symphony is a programme of photography projections accompanied by a full symphony orchestra.

Be inspired and emotionally involved by a programme that has been specially curated by Jean-Christophe Godet (GPF artistic director) and Jean Owen (GSO Conductor).

The work of international and local photographers will be accompanied by composers such as Mozart, Britten, Tchaikovsky, Richter, Mendelssohn and many more.

25th January: The Guernsey Bach Choir and Orchestra

The Guernsey Bach Choir and Orchestra are joined in this performance with a welcome return of four professional guest soloists who have delighted audiences both locally and worldwide with their talent.

Formed in 2007 The Guernsey Bach Choir has performed a large repertoire of choral music and is now a well-established vocal ensemble with a growing reputation for high standard performances. For this event, they come together with an orchestra of strings, trumpets, flutes, oboes and bassoon to perform music from the Baroque Era.

31st January: Guernsey Music Centre Winter Concert

In their annual Winter Concert series, Guernsey Music Centre students showcase their hard work with an evening of varied music.

1st - 28th February: The St Peter Port Sketch Club Exhibition

Come and see The St Peter Port Sketch Club Exhibition at George Crossan Gallery, in the Market Building, consisting of sketches of over 20 locations across St Peter Port from participants aged 7 to 70 years of age.

7th - 9th February: Traditional Guernsey Basketry Course

Guided by Claire Gaudion and her father Max Gaudion, you will be taken through each step of the basket-making process, creating your own Ponier à Cou from scratch, all whilst learning about the historic baskets from your knowledgeable hosts. 

The course is priced at £200 per person, with all materials and tools included, and will take place at Les Caches Farm, Rue des Villets, Forest, hosted by The National Trust of Guernsey.

8th February: The Magic Numbers

The Magic Numbers are a UK-based four-piece band comprising two pairs of siblings.

Their Mercury Prize-nominated self-titled debut album was released in 2005 to critical acclaim, and contained top ten hit singles such as 'Forever Lost', 'Love Me Like You' and 'Love is a Game'.

They will be performing at St James.

15th February: Mirror Ball does Motown

After a sold-out show in 2024, the Soul Funk Corporation return to St James for another night of Motown, Soul & Funk. Playing hots from Stevie Wonder, The Surpremes, Four Tops, The Jackson 5 and many more.

Northern Soul DJ Andy Newman will be playing music on either side of the live band.

21st February: The Dudok Quartet - Amsterdam

The Dudok Quartet Amsterdam will be playing a crafted programme at St James, designed to engage their listeners in imaginative ways. 

27th February: Lecture & Music Inspired by Victor Hugo

The Victor Hugo In Guernsey Society presents a Lecture & Recital at St. James by Arnaud Bigaignon de Sullé.

Arnaud has attended many operas around the World and speaks regularly to public audiences about them. He was always filled with admiration for Victor Hugo. This will be the first occasion that he has spoken about Hugo’s influence on music and opera.

During his lecture, Arnaud will talk about the many and close links between Victor Hugo and music, and especially opera.

GADOC will also be performing songs from Les Misérables.

28th February: Ardal O'Hanlon Live

Stand-up comedian, Ardal O'Hanlon will be performing at St James.

He has performed all over the world and appeared in TV shows such as Taskmaster and Would I Lie To You? with leading roles in other shows such as Death in Paradise.

28th February: Guernsey Rally

The Guernsey Rally is a closed road rally taking place on Friday 28 February and Saturday 1 March 2025, staged in lanes around the Island.

Friday 28 February starts at 13:30 with 1 stage and then will proceed to 2 evening stages from approximately 18:00.

There are 7 rally stages in total – 3 on Friday and 4 on Saturday with each stage being run 4 times. All these stages are located in various locations around the Island.
