Things to do this month on The Islands of Guernsey

Spring is in full bloom on the Islands of Guernsey...

As our Islands prepare to celebrate the 80th Liberation since the occupation during WWII, there are plenty of upcoming activities and events to enjoy.

The return of the warm weather means that there is no better time to be planning your getaway. Whether you're looking to experience island-hopping, arts and culture, historical explorations or outdoor activies, you'll find plenty to do on our Islands this Spring. 

See below the upcoming events Guernsey has in store for you.

APRIL

Throughout April: Art at the Park - Deb Soper's 'Edge of the Sea'

Deb Soper will be showcasing her 'Edge of the Sea' exhibition at the Art at the Park Gallery, Folk and Costume Museum, Saumarez Park between Tuesday 1st April until Friday 2nd May.

The Gallery opens from 10am until 5pm daily, is accessible friendly and has free entry.

2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th April: Go Guernsey Guided E Bike Tour

An expertly guided cycle tour every Wednesday, starting in a peaceful area of St. Peter Port.

You’ll discover historic sites and buildings, barracks and fortifications, stunning natural surroundings and spectacular views over the Channel towards the islands Herm and Sark.

2nd April: Ed Byrne's A Tragedy Plus Time

From the quote attributed to Mark Twain, humour is defined as Tragedy Plus Time. Come and join Ed as he tests that formula by mining the most tragic event in his life for laughs.

6th April: Sure Guernsey Marathon 2025

The Sure Guernsey Marathon is a hugely popular sporting event in Guernsey. The race is split into three categories with the relay race taking place along with the marathon, as well as the 'the marathon mile', the day will be open to runners of all levels wishing to take part in their chosen race.

6th & 20th April: Sunday Afternoon Walking Tours

These approximately 2-hour tours will be led by silver-accredited guide, Keith Pengelley, on selected Sundays throughout the season.

5th, 12th, 19th & 26th March: Guernsey Parkrun

Guernsey Parkrun is a 5k run held every Saturday morning at Pembroke Bay all year round. After the run, most runners go to the Pembroke Beach café for a coffee.

12th April: Guernsey Raiders Rugby Home Fixtures

Watch a Guernsey Raiders rugby fixture and make a weekend out of the match.

13th & 21st April: Guernsey Football Club Fixtures

Watch a Guernsey Football Club fixture and make a weekend out of the match.

12th & 19th April: Easter Egg Hunt at Camp De Reves

Back by popular demand, enjoy an action-packed morning of Easter-themed games around the glampsite with delicious prizes on offer for the winners.

12th & 26th April: Seaweed Foraging Tours

Learn everything about the fascinating history of seaweed in Guernsey and its many uses in cosmetics, farming, cooking and the fashion industry. This is a hands-on learning experience where you will get the chance to use seaweed moisturiser and eat multiple types of fresh seaweed straight from the beach. 

16th April: Easter Holidays Archery Session

Head to Camp De Reves to hone your archery skills and enjoy a bit of friendly competition with free session, hosted by Outdoor Guernsey.

16th April: Japanese Calligraphy Evening Workshop

Japanese calligraphy, known as "Shodo", is one of the oldest surviving traditional Japanese art forms. Emerging in Japan in the 4th Century, the art of writing Kanji (Chinese characters) creates beauty through the careful use of space and character formation.

While focusing on the formation of the individual brush strokes in each Kanji, Shodo teaches deep concentration and mindfulness. 

18th - 21st April: EY Easter Running Festival 2025

The festival consists of four races, allowing participants to enter as many or as few races as they like.

The festival will be taking place from Friday, 18 April – to Monday, 21 April, and includes a 5km road race, 4.75-mile full course cross country, 4x1 mile relay race, and 10km road race.

18th & 19th April: The Doghouse Tribute Nights

See some of the UK's top tribute bands perform at The Doghouse for their final year of Tribute Nights.

18th April: Street Food Festival

The Street Food Festival is a celebration of local establishments, creating one dish to celebrate the diversity of food influences in Guernsey.

Come down to enjoy the food and drinks, meet their special guest, and enjoy the atmosphere on the seating provided.

20th April: The Farmhouse Gazebo Gigs

The perfect summer afternoon at The Farmhouse with great food and live music on their poolside terrace.

26th April: Sark Triathlon

Mr. Hester’s Sark Triathlon returns as a highlight of the Bailiwick's triathlon season. Set in the scenic Isle of Sark, this off-road triathlon promises stunning views and local support.

26th April - 4th May: The Guernsey Literary Festival

Come and celebrate great writing and big ideas in the beautiful island of Guernsey. 

The Guernsey Literary Festival, now established as one of the biggest annual arts events in the Channel Islands, will feature more than 50 events, including a full education and community programme.

27th April: Tornado Fitness Racing

Whether you’re an experienced Fitness Racer or want to get your first event under your belt, The Tornado will push you to your limits.

Alternating between indoor workout challenges and outdoor running intervals in the picturesque surroundings of the Peninsula Hotel, 100 competitors will attempt to beat the Tornado surrounded by friends and family willing them on to the finish.

29th April: Paula Obrien LIVE

Join Paula Obrien for a performance at the Duke of Richmond Hotel.

May

1st May: Mermaid Courtyard Charity Quiz

The Mermaid Tavern is hosting a charity quiz for The Village at Le Murier School.

2nd May - 31st October: Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Society Tour

Experience the locations featured in the best-selling book, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, written by Mary Ann Shaffer and her niece, Annie Burrows.

3rd May: Sark Open Golf

Enjoy a day of golf in the stunning surroundings of Sark. Whether you are a seasoned golfer or a casual player, this event promises a fun and friendly competition. All proceeds will be going to local sporting charities.

3rd May: Liberation Event with National Trust of Guernsey

Join the National Trust of Guernsey for a family-friendly Liberation event at the Folk & Costume Museum with a tea & cake stand, children's activities, and an opportunity to explore the museum.

The Guernsey Motor and Cycle Club will visit the museum courtyard, showcasing their vintage vehicles and cycles in period dress. 

3rd May: La Beltane - Sark May Day Celebrations 

Supported by Guernsey Arts, the festival is a modern-day re-creation and celebration of an ancient Iron Age Celtic ritual and is the only of its kind to be found in the Channel Islands.

A team of enthusiasts put together a medley of traditional May Day celebration events, which kick off the season.

4th & 18th May: Sunday Afternoon Walking Tours

These approximately 2-hour tours will be led by silver-accredited guide, Keith Pengelley, on selected Sundays throughout the season.

4th May: Batterie Scharnhorst Tour

Experience a guided tour around Batterie Scharnhorst which is situated on private land. View two gun emplacements together with ammunition stores and personnel shelters, hear how this Batterie was used during the Occupation and what eventually happened to the guns housed there, and view exclusive photographs from a private collection.

4th, 11th, 18th & 25th May: Candie Concerts

Live music returns to Candie Gardens this summer and the concerts are free.

4th & 26th May: Cobo Balcony Gigs

The Cobo Balcony Gigs have become a major part of Guernsey summers over the past 30 years and bring a real carnival atmosphere to the Cobo seafront whilst raising much needed funds for local charities.

5th & 25th May: The Farmhouse Gazebo Gigs

The perfect summer afternoon at The Farmhouse with great food and live music on their poolside terrace.

The Farmhouse is welcoming some of the top UK tribute bands during the summer.

5th May: Batterie Mirus Tour

An immersive tour of Batterie Mirus, Gun Emplacement no 1, situated on private land. This is a unique opportunity to experience the scale of this fortification, which housed the largest guns in the Channel Islands during WWll.

6th May - 28th October: 80 Years of Liberation - Occupation Tours 

Guernsey was occupied during the second world war by Nazi Germany from 30 June 1940
until 9th May 1945.

Your driver guide will take you to some of the concrete fortifications on the island while telling you tales of the occupation that have been recounted by local families over the last 80 years of liberation.

6th & 7th May: G4 Phantoms of the Popera

This vocally dynamic evening showcases smash-hit songs from the West End and Broadway, brought to you by vocal harmony quartet and original X Factor stars, G4.

7th - 30th May: Art at the Park - Frances Lemmon

A new exhibition by Frances Lemmon at the Art at the Park Gallery, Folk and Costume Museum, Saumarez Park. 

The exhibition runs from Wednesday 7th May until Friday 30th May from 10am to 5pm daily.

7th, 14th, 21st & 28th May: Go Guernsey Guided E-Bike Tour

An expertly guided cycle tour starting in a peaceful area of St. Peter Port.

You’ll discover historic (and pre-historic) sites and buildings, barracks and fortifications, stunning natural surroundings and spectacular views over the Channel towards Herm and Sark islands. Cycling through picturesque countryside in St Martins parish, we’ll pass by Guernsey granite traditional farmhouses and cottages, waterways and bridal paths and might even get to meet a famous Guernsey cow.

8th May: Liberation 80 Occupation Explorer Tour

During the drive, hear about how the German Occupation affected the guide's own family, and the unique role that some of them played. Visit The German Underground Hospital, The German Occupation Museum and Pleinmont Gun Batterie, where you will be provided with a fully guided private tour inside each of the various locations.

9th May: 80th Liberation Day

2025 is the 80th anniversary of Guernsey's Liberation, commemorating the Islands' freedom from German Occupation during World War II.

Celebrations will be taking place throughout the year with Liberation Day itself taking place on 9 May. The festivities provide an opportunity for islanders to remember the days of Occupation, which played such a monumental role in shaping both the landscape and the lives of the people of Guernsey.

A full programme of events and entertainment for all ages is planned across St Peter Port seafront and the parishes, available to view here. In recognition of this year’s milestone anniversary, the day will see the return of traditional events, alongside new events and activities.

9th - 12th May: Gandeys Circus Carnival

Experience the carnival spirit as Gandeys Circus provides thrilling circus entertainment featuring an international cast of extraordinary performers, led by Joel Hatton, their Ringmaster, and Bippo The Clown.

9th May: Liberation Day at L'eree

The Parish of St Pierre du Bois is hosting another fabulous Liberation Day celebration for our Island Community on Friday 9th May 2025, with a party for everyone. Join them on L’Eree common, beach and roadside to celebrate 80 years of freedom from the occupying forces. 

The full and varied programme has something for everyone, with Remembrance, Education & Celebration in equal measure.

10th & 24th May: Seaweed Foraging Tours

10th May: Two-Tone Mirror Ball Night with THE BEAT

A night of original two-tone music with father-son pop duo The Beat, comprised of Ranking Roger and Ranking Jnr.

11th May: Liberation 80 German Underground Hospital Tour

Join us for a guided tour inside the largest structural reminder of the German Occupation existing in the Channel Islands.

Your guide will provide you with information on the construction and use of this facility during WW2. As you walk through the many tunnels, you will be shown various interesting areas which without a guide you may unwittingly walk past. This site also houses some interesting exhibitions, and has aerial footage photographs from WW2 of various areas around the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

12th May - 1st September: Dutch Language Guided Walks Around St Peter Port

Guided tours around St Peter Port, available in Dutch.

16th - 18th May: Sark Yoga Retreat

Join Katie Brock for the Sark Yoga Retreat from the 16th - 18th May 2025. The retreat is open and inclusive for all participants, from beginners through to the experienced, and teachers.

Katie has been practicing yoga for 25 years, teaching for 13 and has 10 years experience in running retreats. With all her knowledge and experience, Katie has been able to develop a very inclusive practice for all to be involved in. The retreat is made to help individuals feel calm with mindful movement that helps focus on the present moment.

16th May: O'EH'SIS

If you’re missing out on the real Oasis reunion gigs next year, this is your chance to relive the anthems that defined a generation—right here in Guernsey, backed by a full line-up of top local talent.

17th May: Channel Islands VS Sweden Rugby Match

Guernsey Raiders and Jersey RFC are joining forcing to create a formidable Channel Island team to take on the Swedish International rugby team on the 17 May 2025, in Guernsey. It promises to be a fantastic game of high quality and entertainment. 

18th May: GU36 Guernsey Ultra

A 36 mile, fully marked, mixed terrain race around the island of Guernsey.

The circular route starts in the picturesque town of St. Peter Port before leading on to 16 miles of beautifully rugged cliffs. From here, it is fairly flat going along the west coast, where you will enjoy the view of the sweeping bays and beaches. At around mile 25, there will be another fully stocked checkpoint and kiosk to replenish you before continuing around the north coast of the island and finally the east coast back to St Peter Port and the finish.

18th & 25th May: Seafront Sundays

Enjoy an al-fresco vibe along the St Peter Port seafront on certain Sundays during the summer months.

Each Seafront Sunday has a different theme, but all offer the chance to stroll along the seafront, enjoying the casual friendly atmosphere.  

24th May - 8th June: Spring Walking Festival

Join experienced and professional Guides from the Bailiwick of Guernsey Guild of Accredited Guides for their annual Spring Walking Festival. From Saturday 24 May to Sunday 8 June, every day will see a range of guided walks exploring the wonders of Guernsey, Herm and Sark. 

From coastal hikes and hidden ruettes tranquilles, to exploring our beautiful capital, each walk starts close to a bus stop and parking area, and all are rated from an easy amble to a more testing hike.
