The north end of the island (Clos du Valle) was once separated from the main island of Guernsey by the Braye du Valle, nearly 200 years ago. This was drained in the early 19th century but The Vale Pond was left and now provides a breeding habitat for a variety of bird-life, including snipe, heron and little egrets, and has a public viewing hide.
Please note to keep away from the edge of the pond as this disturbs bird life.
