Experience Guernsey in all its rural beauty on a route that keeps the rider hidden in country lanes flanked by hedges, fields, wild flowers and trees with never more than a hint of distant sea views.
The route starts by following the eastern flight-path of the airport before dropping down past the German Underground Hospital. At the northern tip of the route is the church of Ste Marie du Castel built on a site that has been linked with pagans, pirates and Romans.
A neolithic stone menhir can be seen outside the main door and at its foot the stone seats for the officials of the Medieval court of Fief St Michel. The ride probes the green heartland of Guernsey, visiting Talbot Valley, Fauxquets Valley and Les Vauxbelets Valley, all areas of outstanding rural beauty each with its own characteristic charm. Suitable stopping points are the Ron Short Walk, for a gentle stroll on the side of Talbot Valley, and the Little Chapel at Les Vauxbelets to marvel at the pottery and shell church.
On a ride as demanding as this a refreshment stop is always welcome. This can be found at Bruce Russell Gold and Silversmiths, set within beautiful gardens.
